Interview on Sportsnet Radio the FAN 590: Is crying acceptable in sports?

Listen to my conversation with Jeff Sammut on the Jeff Sammut Show on Sportsnet Radio the Fan 590 (Canada’s number one sports talk radio station) where we discuss my latest article in the Good Men Project Magazine on men’s emotional expression in the NBA.

In this interview we discuss the following:

-The mixed societal messages surrounding men’s emotional expression

-The negative psychological and physical consequences of men not expressing their feelings

-Why I believe we need to move away from defining our emotions as “good” or “bad”

- The differences between expressing emotions in maladaptive and adaptive ways

-The specific challenges of facing emotions in the sports world

I am so appreciative to Maneet Bhatia as he has so clearly described how essential it is to accept and encourage adaptive emotional expression with boys and men in sports. I strongly recommend that coaches, counselors, and parents share this interview with young people in order for them to learn that emotional expression in sports is natural and essential to developing and maintaining an ultimate level of physical and emotional health.
